....I Love guitars ! Three years ago after watching Eric Clapton "Unplugged" on dvd for the first time, I knew I had to play the guitar. I was 35 and it was to be now or never. I called a good friend who plays and asked for suggestions.
Acoustic or Electric ?
The following day I drove an hour to a guitar store he suggested, Winter Sound , Jim Winter and his crew are 100%, you won't find a better bunch anywhere. I felt like a square walking in and immediately forgot those thoughts when I saw all the delicious curves everywhere. Probably the same feeling I would get walking into the Playboy mansion....kidding, nothing could be that nice but you get the picture.
I bought a Powerhouse Strat and small Crate amp. $550, I was committed to learn/play !
The next step was lessons, fortunately that could be found closer to home.
I started, it was a little disheartening when the pupil(s) before and after pass you in the doorway and only come up to your chest (height).
But I have stuck with it for three years now. My teacher is patient, an excellent player. I tried to blow him away once with a Danny Gatton video, he played it right back at me. I guess you really want your teacher to be able to right ?
Then "John" explained what he had played, "what mode from which scale".
Fastforward to the search for the perfect guitar which would play itself and add years to my experience. As I stated above my first amp was a small Crate, GX15 to be exact. My second amp was a Vox AC30.  I'm a big U2 fan
(the Edge)
My "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" never sounded so good.
I do not consider myself to be a "gear whore" as it is so gracefully worded, but one willing to experiment. I have owned Gibsons, Rickenbackers, Epiphones, Taylors, Buddha pedals, Vox pedals, Fulltone pedals, Black, Blonde & Tweed Blues Juniors, Pro Jrs', Pathfinders by Vox and much more.
We have all gone through that frightful experience of changing guitar strings for the first agonizing time. I now swap necks, pups, height adjustments and intonation with no fear.
The gear listed below are the creme of the crop, the ones that have been safely tucked away. Not in any particular order:
